The Opportunity

Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education has mandated a revamped K-12 curriculum that makes coding, robotics, and artificial intelligence compulsory subjects from junior secondary through to senior secondary school. This historic reform — being mirrored across 27 other African nations — represents the single largest expansion of digital education in the continent’s history.

Digital Futures Africa is uniquely positioned to serve this moment. Our K-12 Schools Programme delivers curriculum-aligned content, teacher training, laboratory equipment support, and student enrichment activities to schools across Nigeria and beyond — working directly with Ministries of Education, school owners, and school governing bodies to make the reform a reality in classrooms.

Curriculum Tracks

The programme is structured into two tracks aligned to Nigeria’s revised national curriculum framework, spanning Junior Secondary School (JSS1–3) and Senior Secondary School (SSS1–3).

How It Is Delivered

DFA’s K-12 programme is delivered through a flexible blended model designed to work within the realities of African schools — whether in a well-resourced urban school or a rural school with limited infrastructure.

🏫
In-School Curriculum Integration
DFA works directly with schools to integrate content into timetabled lessons, providing teacher training, lesson plans, and student workbooks aligned to national assessment frameworks.
💻
Online Learning Platform
The DFA Schools Portal gives students and teachers access to video lessons, coding exercises, quizzes, and project briefs — available offline via the mobile app in areas with limited connectivity.
🤖
Robotics Labs & Equipment
DFA partners with schools to establish or upgrade computer and robotics laboratories, providing subsidised equipment bundles (coding kits, microcontrollers, sensors) through our hardware partner network.
🏆
Coding Clubs & Competitions
Extracurricular DFA Coding Clubs meet weekly for enrichment activities, hackathons, and national competitions including the DFA Schools Robotics Championship and AI Challenge.
👩‍🏫
Teacher Training & CPD
Intensive teacher training workshops and ongoing continuing professional development (CPD) ensure every teacher can deliver the curriculum confidently. Certified DFA Teacher status is awarded on completion.
🎓
Certification & University Pathways
Students who complete the programme receive the DFA K-12 Digital Skills Certificate, recognised by partner universities and employers as evidence of practical digital competency beyond standard examinations.

What Students Achieve

By completing the DFA K-12 programme, students will be able to:

Write, test, and debug programmes in both Scratch and Python
Design, build, and programme functional robotic systems
Collect, analyse, and visualise data to draw meaningful conclusions
Understand how AI and machine learning systems work and their societal impact
Build a functional website or app prototype from scratch
Develop and pitch a digital business concept with a working prototype
Compete in national and continental coding and robotics championships

Who This Serves

This programme serves secondary school students aged 10–18 across Africa, with initial focus on Nigeria in alignment with the national curriculum reform. It is equally designed for school owners and principals seeking to implement the new curriculum compliantly and effectively, education ministries and agencies at state and federal level, and teachers and educators needing certified professional development in digital education delivery.

“For the first time in our school’s history, our students are building robots, writing code, and talking about starting tech companies. DFA made the new curriculum come alive in our classrooms.”
— Mr. Adewale T., Principal — Lagos State Government Secondary School

Institutional Partners

DFA’s K-12 programme is delivered in partnership with governments, educational institutions, and technology companies committed to transforming digital education across Africa.
